The Chocolate Jolokia is a dark-colored variant of the famous Bhut Jolokia, also known as the Ghost Pepper. Originating from the Assam region in Northeast India, this Chocolate version is a natural mutant that maintains all the potency of the original.
This is a nuclear pepper and extremely potent. Its heat level is rated around 900,000 to 1,001,300 Scoville Units (SHU). Despite the overwhelming heat, the Chocolate version is highly valued for its complex flavor: it has fruity notes and a rich earthy and smoky touch that distinguishes it from the red version.
Notable for its wrinkled and elongated appearance. It starts green and ripens to a rich, deep chocolate-brown. This dark coloring and its rough shape give it a menacing look that perfectly matches its intense burn.
Must be handled with extreme caution. Popular for producing gourmet hot sauces, creating smoky powders and flakes, and controlled oil infusions.
