The Heirloom Banana Pepper (Capsicum annuum) is named for its elongated, slightly curved shape and bright yellow color. As an Heirloom variety, its seeds have been passed down for generations, preserving its original characteristics. Unlike the sweet versions, the Hot Banana carries a mild but distinct heat.
Classified as Mild, it provides a modest dose of heat. Its Scoville scale (SHU) ranges from 8,000 to 10,000 SHU, offering a noticeable warmth that doesn’t linger. The flavor profile is its main attraction: sweet, tangy, and very fruity, with a crunchy and meaty texture.
Growing 10 to 15 cm long, this pepper is a favorite for Pickling and Preserves. Sliced into rings, it adds a sweet and sour crunch to sandwiches, burgers, and pizzas. It is also excellent for Stuffing (Poppers) or grilled to accompany meats.
