The Sweet Moruga is a unique and rare variant of the world-famous Trinidad Moruga Scorpion. This cultivar is a remarkable case of selection, retaining the complex flavor of its super-hot ancestor while having lost most of its heat through mutation.
The defining feature of Sweet Moruga is its surprising lack of heat. While the original hits over 1.2M SHU, the Sweet version is almost heatless, with a minimal pungency comparable to a mild Jalapeño, around 15,000 to 20,000 Scoville Units (SHU). Its flavor profile is its trump card: it retains the fruity, complex, and slightly smoky taste of a Scorpion but with an unexpected sweetness.
It is visually identical to its super-hot relative. Fruits are round, golf-ball sized, thick-walled, and have the typical wrinkled surface of Scorpion peppers. It matures to a vibrant and intense fire-red.
Extremely versatile, it is highly recommended for fresh consumption in salads, creating fruity salsas, sauces, and sweet jams that require an exotic pepper flavor without the fire.
