The Chocolate Hand Grenade is a unique cultivar developed from a cross between the Chocolate Habanero Long and the Black Congo. Belonging to the Capsicum chinense species, it was selected for its high productivity and striking shape and flavor.
This pepper has a heat level classified as very strong, similar to a traditional Habanero, estimated around 300,000 Scoville Units (SHU). Its flavor profile is its strength: rich, full-bodied, and fruity, with strong earthy and smoky notes. The term "chocolate" refers to its deep brown color and its bouquet reminiscent of dark, deep tones.
The name "Hand Grenade" comes from its particular shape: compact, thick-walled, and lantern-like, sometimes resembling a small vintage grenade with a wrinkled surface. It ripens to a deep chocolate brown.
Highly versatile and prized for Barbecue (BBQ) sauces, Jamaican jerks, dark Mexican dishes, and gourmet hot sauce fermentation.
