The Carolina Reaper is a hybrid pepper of the Capsicum Chinense species, originally called "HP22B", was created by breeder Ed Currie, who runs Pucker Butt Pepper Co. in Fort Mill, South Carolina.
The Carolina Reaper was classified as the world's hottest pepper by Guinness World Records according to 2013 tests, averaging 1,569.3 billion SHU (Scoville scale), with peak levels of over 2,200 billion SHU.
The Carolina Reaper known as HP22B is beautiful, with a bright red rough surface and a long tail.
But don't be fooled! This pepper has its name for a reason.
If you are brave enough to eat this pepper whole, NO JOKE!, be very, very careful when using it. Those who are not afraid of the Reaper are fools! Only those who are used to nuclear ones can handle it (and there are few of them).
